Support between home and hospital

A hospital journey can be difficult when a family member cannot travel comfortably in a regular car. MCS Ambulance accepts planned transfer enquiries for hospital admission, discharge and travel between care locations. Share the patient’s mobility needs and the treating team’s transport instructions so the required support can be discussed before the trip.

Hospital admission and outpatient journeys

Provide the hospital name, building, appointment time and pickup address. Tell us whether the patient is travelling from home, a nursing facility or another hospital. Discuss the requested arrival time and any accompanying family member when asking for a quotation, especially where access or patient positioning needs extra planning.

Discharge to home or a care facility

Confirm with the ward when discharge is expected and identify the receiving location. Have a contact person available at both ends of the journey. Let us know about stairs, lift access and distance from the vehicle to the room so the team can plan pickup and handover arrangements.

Inter-hospital transfers

The sending and receiving facilities should coordinate the patient’s care and acceptance. Provide the relevant ward details and receiving contact. Share any transport requirements communicated by the treating team; equipment, assistance and suitability are confirmed according to the patient’s needs and service availability.

What to include in your enquiry

Send the exact pickup address, destination, requested date and time, and whether the journey is one-way or return. Tell us whether the patient can sit, needs stretcher transport or requires help at the pickup point. Clear information lets our team discuss the suitable arrangement and prepare a route-specific quotation.

Quotation and booking confirmation

Your enquiry is reviewed before a booking is accepted. Distance, timing, waiting time, access and support requirements can affect the quote. Ask what is included and agree any return collection or waiting arrangements. Sending a WhatsApp message does not by itself reserve a vehicle; wait for confirmation from our booking team.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I book before the patient is discharged?

Yes, you can send an enquiry while planning discharge. Tell us the expected timing and update the team when the ward confirms readiness. Availability and pickup time must still be agreed.

  • Can a family member accompany the patient?

Mention this when enquiring. The booking team will confirm the available space and whether an accompanying person can be included in the agreed arrangement.

  • What if the home has stairs?

Provide the floor level, lift availability and any narrow access points before booking. Assistance requirements must be assessed in advance rather than assumed on arrival.

  • Can I arrange a return hospital trip?

Ask for a two-way quote and include the expected appointment duration. Confirm whether waiting or a later collection is being arranged and how it is charged.

  • Is hospital acceptance included in the transport booking?

The receiving hospital or care facility must confirm its own acceptance arrangements. The transport quotation covers the agreed journey and support rather than admission approval.

Hospital-to-Home and Nursing Home Transfers

A hospital discharge transfer may end at the patient’s home or a nursing home. For a bedridden patient transfer or stretcher transport request, describe patient positioning and the access at both locations. Hospital follow-up appointment transport can be quoted as a one-way or return trip. Inter-facility transfer enquiries should include the sending and receiving contacts.

Compare MCS transport services, read the ambulance booking guide, or request an ambulance quotation for your journey.
